Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Aug. 01, 2008

Life's Ripples header

I enjoy watching animals, and I believe that they are a gift from God. As such, I believe the animals were put here to teach us lessons about life. You have read about my dog Zani and my twenty five pound cat Simba, but I also have an aquarium. It is very relaxing watching my fish swim around, but I'm amazed at one fish in particular. This fish has a deformed back that is badly bent. He actually swims straight up and down instead of like normal fish. Due to his deformation we have named him Quazimoto.
When I first bought Quazimoto I noticed that he had this deformity, but sometimes it seems to affect him worse than others. People who see him always say that I have a fish in my tank that is dying, and quite honestly there have been many times I thought he was dead as well. He at times lies on the bottom of the aquarium and appears lifeless, but he always perks up. None of the other fish in the aquarium bother him, and he has been with me now for two years.
This condition of his does not slow him down. He is always the first one to swim to the top of the aquarium when I feed them. For some reason this amazing little guy keeps right on living a quality fish life in spite of his deformation.
I know many people like this little fish. They face severe trials and many obstacles, but with God's grace they wake up each day and face it anew. There is no time for whining and complaining because they have a life to live, or in the case of Quazimoto, an aquarium in which to swim. Having God's grace in your life makes all things possible. Live life this day with joy and grace and see if your obstacles seem more manageable when faced with the same kind of determination exhibited by God's little creature, Quazimoto.
