BR Art Fair returns on May 17-18 at Indianapolis Art Center
by Alan Hague
posted: May 09, 2008

The 38th Broad Ripple Art Fair will be held on May 17 and 18, 2008, on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center located at 67th St. and College Ave., 820 E. 67th St..
Pre-sale tickets are available at all Indianapolis Fifth Third Bank locations, Marsh Supermarkets, and the Indianapolis Art Center. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased online at www.IndplsArtCenter.org through May 10, 2008.
Presented by the Indianapolis Art Center and sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, the 38th Broad Ripple Art Fair brings together more than 25,000 visitors, 225 artists, many food vendors and four stages of live entertainment on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center. All proceeds from the Art Fair directly benefit Art Center programs.
A new online jurying system was used that artists from across the country readily embraced. As a result, more than 35 percent first-time artists are set to exhibit at the Art Fair.
"It's a fresh show," Patrick Flaherty, Art Fair artist committee co-chair, says. "Our show is highly competitive which results in excellent work of high quality," being exhibited at the Art Fair.
Iris Dillon, director of the Broad Ripple Art Fair, adds, "Your favorite Art Fair artists will still be here, but we'll also have an entirely new mix of new artists, making this a more diverse fair than in years past."
Four stages of musical entertainment are scattered throughout the Art Fair grounds with local and regional acts performing throughout the two-day event.
Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist, Typhanie Monique, will perform at the 38th Broad Ripple Art Fair on the RadioNow Café Stage on Saturday, May 17, 2008, from 12:30 - 2 p.m. Monique is a "tour de force" in Chicago. The soulful, honey voiced chanteuse is one of the city's most recognized jazz vocalists. Her 2007 album with Neal Alger (jazz guitarist who will join her at the Art Fair), In This Room, was recently awarded a spot on the preliminary short-list for Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album of 2007.
The Prizm Kid's World area will provide free art activities for children of all ages including the WFYI Kids' Stage where Ruditoonz and Moriah Music will perform. Other educational features of the fair include the opportunity to create a ceramic pot for $5 at the spin-a-pot station and Art Center class demonstrations located throughout the grounds and studios.
