On April 19, 2008, Indianapolis will participate in the RACE for the Cure marathon. Eleven thousand people locally will get on their exercise gear and hit the city for a 5k walk/run to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
Andrew Brake, 26, Indianapolis, will be participating in the April 19th walk/run for the Susan G. Komen, RACE for the Cure foundation the day before he ventures to Campo, CA. where he has obligated his time, effort, and sweat to hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

"My enthusiasm for hiking just makes me want to do it for somebody else," Brake said. Brake hiked the Appalachian Trail, which is approximately 2,175 miles long, in 175 days. Hiking the Pacific Crest, Brake has been in contact with the Susan G. Komen foundation to donate all funds he may collect for his efforts.
The PCT stretches 2,700 miles and Brake is anticipating a completion time of six months. He said that he will have 20-25 mile days with sporadic sites along the trail for sleep. During this hike, Brake will be documenting his progress on trailjournals.com.
"I have confidence in myself to complete this trail, not only because I want to do it, but because I can do it," said Brake. The inspiration for collecting donations for his upcoming hike is credited to many individuals close to Brake who have developed and fought breast cancer.
When the hike is completed, all donations will be given to the Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure foundation for awareness and research efforts to fight breast cancer. Donations for Andrew Brake's efforts can be made at curethruhiking.com. On this website, there are several photos to view as well as Brake's mission and goal in hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.
