Handmade jewelry shop opens on Ferguson - by Rebecca Davidson
posted: Feb. 15, 2008

If you're still taking walks around Broad Ripple, you'll have noticed a new shoppe on Ferguson Street. Fairystone Jewelry opened at the beginning of December, and owners Ed and Maxine George are enjoying being a new part of the Broad Ripple Community.
At Fairystone, you can find a plethora of hand-made jewelry. Bracelets, necklaces, and charms adorn the walls and tables in the small shop at 6415 Ferguson Street. Sharing the space are rings and trinkets collected by the proprietor Maxine George. When you arrive, Maxine greets you and graciously pulls herself away from the hard work of stringing bracelets and necklaces at her work-table. She spends her day helping customers, of course, but her passion is creating the next piece of jewelry. And each time, she strives to make it better.

"On my necklaces and bracelets, I make sure each stone and sapphire match. You can tell after a necklace is done - it definitely looks bad when you don't take the time to match the stones."
Perusing the natural stone jewelry can get quite confusing. To help you out, Maxine has a small library of literature on natural stones (like sapphires, malachite, amber). You can find which stones will help bring you protection, contentment, energy, and even love. Maxine will help you find the appropriate birthstone for a gift, too.

Maxine uses several mediums to string her jewelry, including 14 Karat Gold. If you go soon, you can enter a drawing to win a beautiful 14 Karat Gold Sapphire bracelet - just in time for Valentine's Day!
Also, if you bring in the ad from the Classifieds section of the Broad Ripple Gazette, you mayn take your pick of a few special charms that she made as a gift for visiting. And so far, Maxine says Broad Ripple has made her feel welcome! She is still becoming familiar with her friendly surroundings, and discovers something new every day - and she looks forward to being discovered by you!
