"Cupid draw back your bow and let your arrows flow straight to my lover's heart for me, nobody but me..." These are lyrics from a great golden oldie. Anybody care to email me who they think sang it? There could be a Valentine treat for your sweetie from City Dogs Grocery for the right answer. Of course, your sweetie has to be a four-legged love to enjoy it. They say a way to a man's heart is through his stomach but I suggest that a way to his heart is through his dog. You know the old saying "love me - love my dog". Let me share some romantic incidents that I have heard of or personally witnessed.
Not long ago The Indianapolis Star started their web site called Indypaws.com. This is a forum for users to log on and share pet related knowledge and meet others with pets. After logging on you can read what others are asking and answering. If you wish to join in you do so in the name of your pet. You write in and chat in the person of your pet. It would go something like, "Hi my name is Spot and I am a Dalmatian. My mom says I am too active and need Doggy Day Care. Do any of you know a good place that would be fun for me?" You get the idea. It is silly fun. I'm thinking that Spot could pick up a date with another Dalmatian owner for his mom. One day I was reading this and a woman had written in asking what advise others might have for her to get past her boyfriend's dog. It seems when she stays there the dog wets on her clothing-Clearly a jealousy thing. Not long after reading that another woman came in to my store and started talking with another customer about the same thing. How bizarre. But personally I know dogs do get jealous. Our Dalmatian, Daisy, did not like me cuddling up to her man. If we sat together or started to kiss she was between us in a heartbeat even though we had owned her since she was a puppy.
Last week a lady came into the store with a flier she wanted me to post. It was a picture of her lovely dog who needs a new home. The caption stated that the dog is an Akita mix. It says that she is very loving and will be good protection. She has been trained at Bark Tutor and shows her graduation certificate. She is house trained and crate trained and can be trusted in the house alone. She will do best in a home without children and she prefers women. I did not have a chance to talk to the lady, but I had to wonder if she had a new man in her life who did not get along with the dog and now the dog is out. Bark Tudor is a new training facility so this is a new situation.

I love the recent television ad for the bank (I believe it is Chase) where the man and woman are standing side by side at the bank machines. Each has the same breed dog on a leash, a type of small, cute terrier. While they are doing their bank transactions the dogs are checking each other out. The couple finish their transactions at the same time, look down at their dogs interacting, smile and walk off together. Love is in the air. A really cute commercial.
Not long ago a man came in to my store getting ready to go on a first date with a woman. He was nervous and wanted to make a good impression. He asked me to put together a nice assortment of dog treats to give to her dog. We wrapped it all up with a bow and it was special. Smart guy. Again..."love me - love my dog". I'm sure his impression was favorable. He impressed me. For Valentines Day he could add a red rose, or two or three or......you get the idea.
Since I am in the pet business I often get notified about pets that need our human help and love. Here are this week's latest. If you can give some love to these sweeties please contact me. I received a plea for someone to foster or take in a lovely Husky. She is nice tempered and has been spayed and vaccinated. She had been dumped and has been living on the street. She had three puppies and she had been a pet based on her temperament and obedience. Her blue eyes will melt you. Two Golden colored dogs were found at 71st and Evanston and need to be returned. I have already mentioned the Akita mix needing a home.
If any of you have romantic stories to share, or a pet named Cupid please contact me. You will also receive a Valentine treat from City Dogs Grocery. Santa, you don't count. We already know you have a pet named Cupid.
Pets make you smile.
