Can your dog earn a P.h.D.? - By Vivien Bray
posted: Jan. 04, 2008

Bark Tutor is a new school (not to be confused with a doggy-daycare) for pet lovers and their dogs where dogs and puppies are put to the test, earning various degrees when they master specific tricks and skills. Bark Tutor is a sub-section of the Broad Ripple Animal Clinic, a village staple for quality pet care.

Attention, canine owners! There is a new training facility for your pet located in the Glendale shopping center at 2122 Broad Ripple Avenue.
The new facility, Bark Tutor, will specialize in training your pet general house manners and obedience which can easily be transitioned into the home. Group classes will be accessible to work alongside your dog to learn training methods. Also available at Bark Tutor is an indoor dog park permitted to any dog 25 pounds and under for socializing and playing with other dogs of your pet's size.
High-end quality dog food, toys and training supplies can also be purchased at Bark Tutor. The new training facility is a division of Broad Ripple Animal Clinic. Brad Phifer is the director of Behavioral Services at the Clinic.
"We all want a well-behaved dog, but with work, kids and social obligations, the family dog often receives little in the way of appropriate training and exercise," Phifer says. "Bark Tutor will not only offer physical exercise and socialization with other dogs, but more importantly, its programs will help owners to train their dogs how to be better behaved at home and in public."
The new facility will be a place where owners and their dogs can obtain the education needed to live happier, healthier lives with one another.
Bark Tutor offers a day school for your pet as well as puppy pre-school, high school and college. Each division of the different curriculums for your pets' needs can be obtained in these structured schools. Some of the courses have homework for the owner as well as a report card with your pet's departure at the end of the school day.
New student orientation begins November 27th at 7 pm with classes starting Monday, December 3. Dogs with known histories of aggression towards other dogs and humans are not appropriate for the school and should be seen through individual behavior consultations. A pre-enrollment application is required for your pet and can be found on Bark Tutor's website at You can also call the facility at 259-8336 or fax at 259-7789.
