Currently on display at Broad Ripple Art & Design is the best of BRAD, an Anniversary One Piece Show. This show opened with the Fall Gallery Tour on September 14, 2007, followed by the Friday October 12 Gala Celebration. On display are works by Catherine Burris, Andy Chen, D. DelReverda-Jennings, Sofiya Inger, Joani Keller Rothenberg, Jeff Rothenberg, Greg Seagrave, Kate Wagner, Mark Wallis, Circle City Copperworks, Sweitzer & Sweitzer and other area artisans.
Catherine Burris explains "Brain Child," her mixed media piece at Broad Ripple Art & Design.
Many of the artists were on hand to discuss their work or to rearrange it, as was the case with Catherine Burris. Her mixed media busts were an eye catching addition to the mantle, but even more so once her "Brain Child" piece was turned around. Literally about-facing the piece revealed her true creative brainchild of children figures fixed in the busts' brain.
The walls wore photography by Andy Chen, metal wire sculpture by D. DelReverda-Jennings and paintings by Sofiya Inger, Joani Keller Rothenberg, Greg Seagrave and Kate Wagner. Mark Wallis's wooden sculpture "Soul Guides" balanced delicately atop the functional furnishings by Sweitzer & Sweitzer.
Who would have thought that the bathroom and kitchen would be avenues for art? Apparently the constantly creative people at BRAD did. Circle City Copperworks displayed a giant copper bathtub for the cowgirl-at-heart princess, complete with a set of boots. Even the bathroom walls and kitchen surfaces were artistically adorned. As it should be, the kitchen drew an assemblage of friends. Friends who just happened to be artists. They talked, laughed and shared ideas with an assembled garden path beneath their feet.
Broad Ripple Art & Design wants to know, "What can we create for you?" BRAD, located at 5368 Winthrop, is open Saturdays from 1pm to 6pm or by appointment. Visit www.broadrippleart.com for a complete listing of available artists and design ideas.
