It was a gorgeous day for the 8th Annual Rocky Ripple Festival (2007). Within the secluded town of Rocky Ripple, members of the local community, as well as people from around the region, came to enjoy free entertainment and displays of unique art.

Underneath the practically cloudless sky, kids enjoyed playing numerous games in the sand at the volleyball court. In between assorted bouts of playing, the kids went around Hohlt Park to get their hair dyed in various neon colors, as well as to climb around and through the playground.

Near the playground, a large ensemble of percussionists pounded upon their diversely-sized drums. The circle consisted of people of all ages, from enthusiastic children to experienced and professional adults.

Rocky Ripple Community Association (RRCA) volunteers were stationed near one of the park's entrances serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and even veggie burgers for those who prefer a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. On the other side of the entrance, a group of volunteers were selling Rocky Ripple t-shirts and festival souvenirs. By the side of the RRCA, there was a kiosk operated by the Broad Ripple Brew Pub, handing out drinks to thirsty adults.

The festival centered around a large stage which featured many wonderful musical acts. From original pieces to covers of Bob Dylan and other popular artists, the music could be heard wherever one stood at any time.

With the sound of the drum circle playing in the background of the band on stage, the festival radiated a welcoming atmosphere to anyone who passed by, even if they did not actually take part in any of the festivities themselves.

This event was so popular and encouraging that even the busy Mayor Bart Peterson could not help but make an appearance. In casual attire, the mayor was glad and eager to talk to his fellow central Indiana neighbors. His enthusiasm concerning his picture being taken several times with new acquaintances showed that Mayor Peterson was there mainly to be with fellow Hoosiers and enjoy the unique culture of Rocky Ripple.

With so many creative displays, including soap making, custom magnets and a make-your-own pottery tent, the festival was an overwhelmingly original experience. One of the most inspiring aspects shown at the festival was the extent of creativity that could be found locally, maybe even just next door or in your own home.

This festival, most of all, illuminated the possibilities that a group of inventive people could achieve just by doing what they enjoy doing, without any influence from outside expectations.
