Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Oct. 05, 2007
A big thank you goes out to the Broad Ripple Community. People really can (and do) make a difference in the lives of neighboring communities. The ripple effect going out of this community is one to take note of.
Recently our church family decided to help out one of our area missions which is located in the Brightwood neighborhood (25th and Station St). On Wednesday nights we send a group of people to tutor the neighborhood children. There is also a meal served on Wednesday nights prior to the tutoring session. The Wednesday night program is just one of many that Brightwood Community Center provides in service to that community.
We thought it would be good to involve our neighborhood in providing a ripple effect that would reach the Brightwood area. One week, we left grocery bags with a list of needs that Brightwood has on porches around Broad Ripple. The next week we picked up bags from the porches of people who generously donated to the cause.
The response from the Broad Ripple Community was great. Because of your generosity, people in the Brightwood Community will have access to food and much needed school supplies.
It is truly inspiring to see people respond to the needs of others. We have been given the task of caring for each other. It is an awesome responsibility, but one that can easily be accomplished if we all work together to make it happen.
