Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Aug. 24, 2007

Life's Ripples header

Life just doesn't stop, it keeps moving forward at a pretty fast speed and there are constant changes along the way. We have a choice to either adapt to the changes or be run over by them. It was just a few months ago that I wrote about the bitter cold and now we're dealing with 15 plus days of 90 degree heat. We can complain all we want, but it isn't going to do any good. Some things are simply out of our control.
The kids are going back to school now which involves many changes as they learn and grow. College age children are facing new challenges with trying to find their way in the world. My daughter moved this week or Orlando, Florida, to do a business internship at Disney World. Her hope is to get hired on full-time after the internship ends. I worry about the things she will be exposed to while there, but she is a person with a strong faith, a winning smile and a sweet disposition. Amidst all the changes she is going through, she hasn't shown anxiety, anger, or fear. As a father, I am very proud of her, but as a Christian, I am extremely comforted knowing that there is One greater than me who will be watching over her during all the transitions in her life. The good news is that she knows that, too, and that is why she can face such daunting challenges with a smile and a positive outlook.
Although she is young, I have learned much from watching her handle herself through all the changes she has undertaken recently.
Life is about change, in fact, the definition of not changing is death. God has given us the gift of choice. He lets us decide which direction we'll go. He also lets us decide what changes we're willing to face and which ones we'll run from. Sometimes we chose right and sometimes we chose wrong. The good news is that no matter what we do, God loves us and there is nothing we can do to change that. I encourage you today to quit running from that love because embracing it will help with all the changes in life that will surely come your way.
