Fall music festival in village will support local musicians and non-profits - By Ashley Plummer
posted: Jul. 27, 2007

By Ashley Plummer

Jeb Banner, owner of Small Box Consulting in Broad Ripple, along with numerous other Indianapolis area music enthusiasts and non-profit organizations is planning a fall 2007 music fest that will be held in Broad Ripple and outlying area music venues.
Although details are still being ironed out, the fest is scheduled to be a one day, all day event on October 13. In a description release for the event, Banner wrote that Indiana-based musicians will be able to play anywhere from Birdy's off Keystone Ave. and 71st St., to the Melody Inn, located at 38th St. and Illinois St.
Banner noted at a meeting on July 11, 2007, that, while this event will hopefully bring people back to Broad Ripple as the Midwest Music Summit and the Broad Ripple Street Fest have in past years, he wants the focus to be on local music. A decision made by promoters and venue owners at the meeting extended the definition of "local" to include any band within the state of Indiana.
Another key selling point for the event is that a percentage of the money raised at the door for each individual venue will go towards a local non-profit. Every venue will be teamed up with an area non-profit agency who will be allowed to advertise and pass out their literature at their respective venue.
Sponsors thus far include NUVO as the headline sponsor, as well as IndianapolisMusic.net, the Broad Ripple Village Association, Musical Family Tree, Small Box Consulting Firm, Hot Box Pizza, My Old Kentucky Blog and others to be determined.
The Gazette will also participate as a sponsor, and will keep villagers and others updated on the status of the Broad Ripple Fall Music Fest.
