Local church hosts "New to You" fundraising sale - By Sean Kaellner
posted: Jul. 27, 2007

By Sean Kaellner

Serving the entire mid-north side of Indianapolis, the North United Methodist Church is now preparing to put on its annual New To You fundraiser sale. The fifteenth of its kind at the 38th and Meridian location, this event's proceeds will be going towards the church's agenda of helping Indy's senior citizen population.
Every week, North United, which is part of a cooperative of nine churches, is open to any older adults who would like to participate in free learning programs, as well as a very affordable five dollar lunch. Something that is exceptionally fascinating about these programs, though, is that they are managed by senior citizens. What the North United Methodist Church does is not just help seniors by incorporating them into educational programs, but to help them help themselves, by being able to add their own ideas into the planning process.
This incredible institution will then further be assisted by the New To You sale. Headed by the Mid-North Shepard Center, this event will not only encourage senior citizens to enroll in some of the programs at North United, but to also influence all ages to become a larger part of their community. Mary Dickerson, executive director of the Mid-North Shepard Center, as well as a few other head contributors - Harriet Stambaugh, Ruth Shaw and Bernard Wurger - hope that you, your neighbors and all of whom that you can convince to come will be able to make this fifteenth year a great one.
If you would like support this noble cause, the New To You fundraiser sale will be open to the public August 3, 2007, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the North United Methodist Church. If you would simply like to join one of the several programs at the Mid-North Shepard Center, you could go to their website at www.mnscenter.org, or call Mary Dickerson at (317) 924-0959 for more information. This event should surely be a remarkable and inspiring experience, so if the day's plans are up to you, be sure and take the time to check it out.
