Saturday, April 21, 2007, Danny and Veronica Broughton, owners of Hoghead's BBQ restaurant, teamed up with the American Legion Riders to host the first annual Run for the Patriot Guard. It was a motorcycle rally that began at the American Legion in Broad Ripple and made five stops on the way to Lebanon, Indiana. The riders returned to Broad Ripple, greeted by a hog-roast, band and plenty of fun.
About 50 riders participated in the fundraising ride that left the American Legion at 12:00pm and returned around 6:00pm. Since this is its inaugural year, many of the riders were pleased with the turnout; the cause is dear to many of their hearts as well. This motorcycle run raised money for the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, which provides college grants and financial assistance to surviving children and spouses of our U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
