The Scott Family of Old Broad Ripple - part six
by Gladys Scott Coffee
Most of the homes on our street had been made into little places of business and looked neat and well kept. When I was there, our old home at 6519 Ferguson Street had become a lampshade shop. Now I believe it houses the Process Controls Corporation. I'm just glad it is still standing.

Today there are only four members of the Scott family. Dad died in 1947 and Mother lived a long, full life and died in 1983 at the age of ninety- four. The surviving kids are Wally, Tom, Jack and me. I'm a retired school teacher still living in Phoenix. Wally is still working as an investment broker and financial advisor. He lost his beloved Harriett in 2003. Tom is retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department and is also a widower. Jack is a retired building contractor and lives with his wife, Janet, in Noblesville.

As I have worked on this story of our family, I have realized how lucky I was to have lived my childhood where I did and with the parents and siblings that I had. Families who have children growing up in Broad Ripple today have so many wonderful advantages and so many conveniences that make their lives easier. But I don't envy them because I have something they can never have and that is my wonderful memories of growing up a Scott kid in old Broad Ripple.
The End
