Since 1992, Congregation Shaarey Tefilla has been growing steadily. By this Fall the Congregation hopes to relocate from their long-time home at 5879 Central Avenue to a new building in Carmel.

The new Shaarey Tefilla synagogue will sprout its new beginning on ten acres of land that was once farmed for soybeans. The Congregation and its leaders have enjoyed having a great deal of input on the design of their new building. Kathie-Jo Arnoff, President of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla, looks forward to having more room for the well-attended high Holy Days services and events. Not only will the larger building have the facilities for these events, it will also boast four classrooms, a library, and a boardroom. With a growing family-oriented congregation, the four classrooms will give the Congregation the space needed to accommodate their numerous class offerings, such as conversion classes, Hebrew classes, and especially classes for toddlers.
Another important aspect will be the Kosher kitchen. Shaarey Tefilla honors the dietary laws of Conservative Judaism. With the new building, Kosher meals will be easier to prepare and selection will be more abundant. The new kitchen will be able to accommodate both meat and dairy kosher meals.
Architect Darren Peterson of Peterson Architecture in Noblesville is responsible for the new design. Peterson Architecture's work can be seen in several retail, healthcare, industrial and other religious buildings throughout Indiana, including The Fall Creek Shoppes in Fishers, Palmer Dodge in Indianapolis, and several area Qdoba restaurants. Darren Peterson's artistic rendering of the new building is on display in the lobby of the current Shaarey Tefilla location.
Shaarey Tefilla is open to anyone interested in attending, becoming a member, or getting more information on the Congregation. Please visit their website at www.shaareytefilla.org, or contact the Congregation office at 317.253.4591. Fundraising continues for the new building, and information regarding those efforts can also be found by contacting the Congregation office.
The location at 5879 Central Avenue is now up for sale, but no word on whether there are any prospective buyers for the building could be confirmed.
