"GRAPE Escape from the Winter Blahs"
Drink good wine. Meet cool winemakers. Help local women with breast cancer.
Y-ME Indiana Breast Cancer Organization presents its annual unique take on wine tasting and fund raising.
Thursday March 8, 2007 6:30-9pm at The Montage at Allison Pointe.
100 wines from 30 wineries poured by those who make it, grow it or own it.
No other wine tasting in town offers wine fans the chance to meet and talk with so many of the "real people" in the wine world. Great food, unique silent auction items and terrific views from the Montage make this a fabulous evening.
Limited tickets. Get yours now. 844 6018 or office@y-meindiana.org

a family affair...
Have you had your glass of Easley Family Wines Reggae Red today? It's fruity, fun and delicious on a winter's day. Raise a glass as the matriarch of this Indiana wine dynasty, Joan Easley and her late husband Jack receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Wine Grape Council. Joan and Jack started the downtown Indy winery 40-plus years ago after several years of selling grapes grown on their southern Indiana land along the Ohio River. Son Mark still tends the vines and makes the wines that are found in several states across the U.S. and on store shelves in Taiwan.
I recommend the Reggae Red, Easley Barrel White, Catawba, American Champagne, and the spicy, satisfying Mulled Wine served warm or on ice.
Find all at the winery and most at Broad Ripple area grocery, retail and liquor stores; www.easleywines.com or www.indianawines.org to get a map of the Indy Wine Trail on which Easley Family Winery is a popular stop.

Cabin fever...
Warfleigh Wino Nancy e-mails a fabulous site to see how naked wine bottles get properly clothed. Has Molly viewed this one?

Juice!!
Oh, to have the life of a wine lab rat at the Universite Louis Pasteur in France. Scientists there report the polyphenols found in the Concord grape can block production of a protein linked to heart disease. Concord is a Native American grape that grows well in Indiana and is the base of several consumer-friendly wines like Oliver Red and Easley Barrel Red. It's also the grape used to make Welch's grape juice. So a glass a day might help keep your heart from giving way. Oivay! That Kosher correct Manishevitz comes from Concord too.

IN THE BIN:
The top two recycling bin finds this week:
Trader Joes Ugni Blanc/Viognier - low cost, high flavor. Smooth tasty flavors of citrus and honeydew melon with just a hint of herbs.
Five Rivers Merlot - Ripe, juicy aromas and flavors of blackberry, plum, vanilla.
