Numerous events took place around Broad Ripple in 2006. Here is a look back at some of the happenings the Gazette covered.
Gateway to Culture - January - Gateway Sculpture Unveiled - Tim Ryan's sculpture Implications of Three was unveiled at 67th and College venue. The sculpture serves as a gateway to the Broad Ripple cultural district, as designated by Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson.
GResidents United - February - Residents Fight City Hall - In an attempt to retain the quaint village feel of Broad Ripple, the neighborhood fought back against developers' plans to change zoning on two parcels. The neighbors won one battle and the developers won the other.
GMusic, food, dance! dance! - June - The Broad Ripple Street Festival - Numerous Broad Ripple residents and people from outside the area flocked to the Village for the First Annual Broad Ripple Street Festival. The ever-popular local and national act Margot and the Nuclear So and So's headlined the evening's musical festivities.
GLevee questions answered - November - Levee Watch - Although the Indianapolis North Flood Damage Project had been in the works for over ten years, Broad Ripple area construction only began late this year. The Gazette published a three-part series investigating the ways and means of the project.
GChanges come to the Gazette - November-December - New columns, new employees - The Gazette hired an associate editor and has added new neighborhood columnists and features.
