Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Dec. 29, 2006

Life's Ripples header

Recently a fellow church member was admitted to the V.A. Hospital, and though I have been there many times, this visit sobered me. As I passed through the halls, I saw several men sitting in wheelchairs, most missing a limb, many disheveled, and it saddened me. We still have soldiers returning home today from Iraq in the same condition. Have we learned nothing over the years?
I don't want to sound political, but my thought was that if we can spend so much money sending them overseas to fight our wars, why can't we spend money to properly care for them when they return?
I talked to as many of the soldiers that day as I could and made it a point to say "thank you." As we start a new year, instead of making resolutions that benefit only ourselves, why not make one resolution to be aware of those around us who have made tremendous sacrifices in order that we could live free. Don't take freedom for granted this New Year.
