The Andreas Kapsalis Trio recently performed a free instore show at Indy CD & Vinyl, which is located at 806 Broad Ripple Avenue. The trio, Andreas Kapsalis, Jamie Gallagher, and Darren Garvey, has a fascinating middle-eastern/jazzy sound. Much of Andreas' guitar work is completely played on the fret board. Pretty interesting and amazing....Kapsalis severely injured his left hand while wood carving at the age of 18. Although he feared he would never play guitar again, he experimented with a rare technique, eight-finger tapping, which does not require the use of a plectrum, only the ability to push down the strings accurately, and forcefully play the fret board to produce sounds. After relearning all the scales and chords and several months of practice, his right hand had the ability to do the work of two hands. With strenuous physical therapy, he did eventually gain full motion in his left hand again.
