"Santa's Last Call"
I've made my list and checked it twice and it seems that your name falls under the category of naughty rather than nice. And here's the reason why. The elves tell me you haven't given domestic Chardonnay much of a chance this year. They say you've opted for those luscious, balanced French Burgundys and tropical fruit-filled values from Chile and Argentina. And okay, I did spy you sipping some Indiana-grown Oliver Winery Chardonel, a white wine that does offer the same flavors and aromas as Chardonnay at a much better price. But Jill, we need you to help those poor California winegrowers.
So this year don't look for a bottle of Montrachet in your stocking. Instead you'll find a couple of bottles of some outstanding domestic Chardonnay that offer that same silky texture and forward fruit flavors of pear, vanilla cream and honeysuckle with enough vibrant acidity to make them incredible food wines. And they are value priced so you'll have plenty of money left over to buy more milk bones for that dashing doggy boy Harp.
And frankly my dear, he and his late brother Guinness gave better wine recommendations than you this year.
But once again, I'm more of a milk and cookies kind of guy.
Happy Holidays! Love, Santa
