This is Thomas' fifth year with the Indiana Speed. She travels from Louisville, Kentucky to play with the Indiana Speed. When Thomas was growing up she played football in her neighborhood. She ran faster than any of the boys. When asked if she could play organized football, she was told she should be a cheerleader.
Thomas ended up playing basketball all the way through college, but her passion for football didn't die. Surfing the Internet one day, Thomas came across the WPFL website. The closest team at the time was the Indiana Speed. She made the call, came to tryout, and has been with the team ever since. The staff and team members keep her coming back to play despite now having a team in Kentucky.
Thomas said everyone should know that "Football is football! When you come to an Indiana Speed game, expect to see a REAL, smash mouth football game!"
The Indiana Speed continues its winning streak with a victory over the Toledo Reign on Saturday, September 16. With a final score of 18 to 8, the Speed secured a position in the playoffs.
Molly McKeown, #35, skillfully played both sides of the ball. With 12 tackles, an interception return for an 84-yard touchdown and four carries for 13 yards rushing, McKeown was one to watch. Kiva Thomas, #22, had 24 carries for 102 yards rushing. Ashley Johnson, #62, had 17 tackles.
The Speed plays the last game of the regular season on the road on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at North Carolina. The Speed is in the playoffs, but currently tied with Houston. A victory next week over the North Carolina Queens is a must!
