It was the best of Indiana summer in Broad Ripple Park August 15, 2006: not too hot, a gentle breeze and a blistering band. The crowd was engaged and cheers mingled with the clapping and tapping of feet. Teens sprawled on the grass to listen.
Only original tunes were played by the Max Allen Band. Max is backed by drummer Sean France and bass guitarist Sean Bryant. With lyrics like "I need a left hand smoke," these native Indiana musicians exhibited both talent and originality.
Max released his first CD at 16. He currently has three CDs of his music. Max offered free sampler CDs at the park concert and people scrambled to get them. What is Underwear Umbrella? Find out by listening to the band's new CD, Earthwalker, soon to be released. Want to attend their next gig? Go to www.maxallenmusic.com or www.myspace.com/the maxallenband.com
This series features local jazz musicians and the concerts are all held in Broad Ripple Park. Catch the last one on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, when Conga Jazz warms up the air.
