An event on Thursday, April 27th, 2006, took me way back to my childhood memories. The XYZ club that meets at the Broad Ripple U.M.C. (but has people from throughout the community who attend) had a special guest speaker: some of you may know the name Harlow Hickenlooper. He worked for WFBM/WRTV channel 6 from 1960 to 1973, and worked for WFYI-TV channel 20 from 1990 to 1995.

During the 1960's, Harlow's show was quite popular on Saturday mornings. Harlow hosted a show with martian puppets, and then Fergie and Morti would introduce the Three Stooges. I was a die hard fan back then - I always got a thrill when Harlow would sing Happy Birthday and then get hit in the face with a pie. On my birthday, I got to visit the show and have Harlow sing Happy Birthday to me. It was something that I, obviously, have never forgotten.

It was a pleasure seeing Harlow again and seeing his new show - he has branched out, and now his repertoire is aimed at adults. He is still quite the comedian, and he can make people laugh while still keeping it clean.

Harlow is the perfect example of someone who has adapted through the years. He has had to change his delivery, but has stayed true to his desire and talent to make people laugh.
