Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #47

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Here is the forty-seventh installment:
Broad Ripple Marion Co. Ind
Oct 8 - 1896
Board met in special session, members all present.
The call of the special meeting was for the purpose of granting the privilage to the Broad-Ripple Oil and gas company to lay pipe lines in the streets and alleys of Broad-Ripple, of which the following is the form of ordinance passed by said board.
Ordinance
An ordinance authorizing the Broad-Ripple Oil and gas Company to construct, maintain and operate pipe or gas lines in the streets and alleys of the town of Broad-Ripple, Marion Co, State of Indiana.
Section 6
The Broad-Ripple Oil + Gas Co. shall not be compelled to furnish gas to any persons for a cooking stove, who is not also taking gas for at least one heating stove, unless the consumer is taking gas by meter contract, as provided in Section 3.
Section 7
The Broad-Ripple Oil and Gas Co. shall have the right to discontinue a future supply of gas to any consumer in case of ten days default. After the first day of each successive month in pay merit of charges for said gas, But when payment of such charges have been made, gas shall again be furnished to such consumer on his request.
Section 8
On a failure of the said Broad-Ripple Oil and Gas Co. to comply with any of the above conditions of said franchise for the period of more than five days unless an extension of time is granted in writing by the said Board of Trustees of the town of Broad-Ripple reserves the right and power to declare said franchise null and void, after giving ten days notice in writing to said Broad-Ripple Oil and Gas Company unless said failure and omissions are complied with during that time
Section 9
The rights here by granted in this ordinance shall terminate on the 10th day of October 1906.
Section 10
Where as an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance. therefore this ordinance shall be in full effect from and after its passage. Ordained and established this ________ day of October 1896.
