Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Feb. 24, 2006

Life's Ripples header

Sometimes I think people are afraid to attend church because they have the idea that church people celebrate how good they are, and hold themselves above everyone else. Sad to say that in some cases that may be true. I shudder when I see Christians that give off that "vibe". The reality is that we are all sinners. In fact, I could begin every church service the way people introduce themselves at AA meetings, "Hi, my name is Tim, and I'm a sinner".
The church is a place where people gather to worship God, and to encourage each other in their walk with God. We attend church to support the fact that only the Grace of God allows any person to approach Him. In a real sense, the church is a hospital. We are all in recovery from something. Alcoholics are not the only ones who need recovery. Some of us are recovering from overeating, depression, drugs, divorce, the death of a loved one - the list could go on and on.
What is it about your life that could use some of God's peace? Try approaching the church from a new perspective. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Just concentrate on standing before God, opening your mind to His word, and finding the healing and wholeness that He wants for your life. Recovery is yours for the asking. Don't let fear about the church keep you from reaching out and taking it.
