McNamara Names Service Award In Honor of Margaret Rudolph

McNamara Florist presented Margaret Rudolph with the first customer service award. Margaret, who has worked at the Broad Ripple McNamara for 27 years, passed away a short time after receiving the award. "Margaret truly cared about people," said McNamara Florist president Toomie Farris. "This came through in the way she took care of them as customers. She was the most customer oriented person I have known in my 30 years in the business. When I started at McNamara I helped out in the Broad Ripple store during a holiday rush. There were 25 people in line. I asked if I could help them and they each said 'I am waiting for Margaret'. They waited for hours for her. She knew them all by name, how old their kids were, things like that. I didn't need to use a customer Rolodex. I just called Margaret since she knew everyone."
The new service award, an etched crystal vase, is named after Margaret to honor her unequaled career of helping customers. It will be awarded each year to an employee that "typifies the kind of service that Margaret delivered".
There was a gathering of friends, customers, and co-workers at the Broad Ripple store to remember her. The parking lot was packed and the store were filled to capacity with people she had touched.
"For the longest time I thought I had a tremendously personal connection with Margaret," remembers David Strohmeyer, previous manager of the Broad Ripple McNamara and now at G. Thrapp Jewelers. "What I discovered at the gathering for her at the store last week was that she had that with everyone. That's the connection she made with her customers. That's what made her special."
