Broad Ripple Brew Pub, located at 840 E 65th Street, is just off the Monon Trail. It offers free internet through E-wireless. But 'who would take a laptop to a Pub?', I asked myself. Actually the Brew Pub offers family dining and an extensive menu in addition to the brews.

You can sit down at any one of about 15 tables outside the bar area have some lunch and do your e-mail. In the summer there are about another dozen tables outside. After starting my wireless utility I opened my browser and found that the sign-in page for E-Wireless came up. Of course if you have not already registered with E-Wireless you will need to go through their registration process after opening your browser and connecting to their Web page. This means that you will have a user name and password to remember (or write down) for the next time you are at the Brewpub. The only thing E-Wireless asks of you is name and e-mail address, therefore you won't be on anyone's mailing list.

The connection was a fast one at over 800 Mbits/second when I checked it with CNET's bandwidth meter. No problems downloading even large files here with this kind of speed. The only problem you may have is finding an AC outlet near your seat as there are only a few available.

I mentioned that the dining menu is extensive. When I asked for a menu I could take with me, Sara, our waitress, gave me their take out menu. This three page flyer lists 13 starters like soup, pretzels, chips, chicken tenders and a Bucket O'Mussels ranging in price from $3.25 to $11.25. There is a section for salads ranging in price from $3.50 to $8.50. There are also Yorkshire Favorites (Bangers and Mash, Shepherds Pie, etc.), a selection of sandwiches, entrees & pastas and even pizzas (including create your own). The items are way too numerous to list here, but the prices range from $6.95 to $13.75. Surprising as it may seem, I counted 27 items suitable for vegetarians. I have not visited every restaurant in the village, but this one could be the most vegetarian conscious eatery around here.

Bottom line: if you are looking for lunch and a place to do some e-mail this is a place that will fill the bill. Hours are Monday through Thursday 11am to 12 Midnight, Friday and Saturday 11 am to 1 am and Sunday 3 pm to 10 pm.

In case you have trouble finding the Brew Pub, get on the Monon Trail at McDonalds and walk north 2.5 blocks. Look to your left. You can't miss it.
