Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Jan. 07, 2005

Life's Ripples header

By the time this is printed it will be the year 2005, at least by our reckoning. Time is one of those things that appears to have worth attached to it, even though it is not tangible. Time is important to us. Even the jewelry stores market that the watch you wear defines who you are.
In God's mind, I doubt that time is all that important. When you're eternal, there is just no reason to worry about measuring time. What we do with the time we have is much more important than any time frame itself. We can choose to let time dictate our life, or we can work within time to deepen the significance of life.
No matter who we are, things are going to happen to us that are out of our control. We can become angry and bitter, deciding no one else has ever had problems like us, or we can remain above the turmoil and chose to work out the situation to the best of our ability. I often see people who have amazing amounts of problems, yet they remain positive, happy, and full of hope.
We can start each day as if it was a new year. We do not have to wait until the calendar says January 1st. Choose to be happy, to care about other people, and your life will take on much more significance. You will feel better emotionally, and that in turn will help you feel better physically.
I have a plaque in my office that states, "What you are is God's gift to you, what you make of yourself is your gift to God." Choose to begin each day as a new gift to the world.
Happy New Year!!
