Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #4

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894 and started holding regular meetings.
In this column, each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all of the records as they were entered, including those errors. I will make some corrections in brackets [ ].
In the last installment: The Indianapolis and Broad Ripple Transit Company was started and a badge was ordered for the town marshal.

Here is the fourth installment:

Broad Ripple

Board of Trustees met in special session all present 30th July 1894. On motion of CL Kirk Ordinance No 2 Providing for the cutting + burning of all weeds + high grass when ever ordered by he Board of Trustees was passed. Said ordinance No 2 reads to wit

Ordinance No 2
General ordinance No 2 passed July 30th 1894
An Ordinance providing for the cutting + burning of all weeds, dock, thistles and high grass, on all the lots and lands within the corporate limits of the town of Broad Ripple Marion County State of Indiana and declairing an emergency
Whereas public health comfort and convenience requires the cutting and burning of all weeds, dock, thistles and high grass on all the lots and lands within the corporate limits of The town of Broad Ripple Marion County State of Indiana. Therefore

Section 1.
Be it ordained by the Board of Trustees of the town of Broad Ripple Marion County state of Indiana that the owner's and agents of all lots and lands within the corporate limits of said town shall cause all weeds dock thistles and high grass thereon growing to be cut down and burned whenever so ordered by the Board of Trustees of the town of Broad Ripple if said owner or agent shall fail or refuse to comply with the conditions of this ordinance for more than eight days after notice had been given by the board of trustees of the said town the Town Marshall of said town shall by and he is here by ordained to so cut down and burn such weeds dock thistle and high grass, to keep strict account of the cost there of and to collect the same from such owner or agent to fail or refuse to cause all weeds, dock, thistle and high grass so growing on any lot or land or parsell of land within the limits of said town to be cut down and burned as herein provided
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall upon conviction thereof be fined in any sum not exceeding Twenty Five dollars

Section 2
Wheras an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance therefore this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
On motion of JW Bates the Board adjourned till the 31st July 1894 to discuss the liquor licence
