Second Annual Taste of Broad Ripple Packs Streets with Food, Music and Celebration
posted: Jun. 24, 2004
June 5, 2004 - The Second Annual Taste of Broad Ripple was better than ever. The weather was cooler than last year, and it only sprinkled briefly. People lined up Broad Ripple Avenue thirty minutes before the gates opened.
This year a kiddieland was added behind Chelsea's on Guilford Avenue. Several carnival games and two moon-walks were included. Clowns made balloon animals, and there were two face painting stations. All of the mascots at the Taste visited with the kids. These included the Butler Bulldog and the over-sized Colts player.
At the Westfield stage were several musical performances that were sponsored by RadioNow 93.1. Billy and Marco, from the RadioNow morning show, revved up the crowd. Performing were Franchise, Hum-V & The Cleptoz, Zanna-Doo, Five Apples, Rooney, JoJo, and Fuel. The music was incredibly loud yet was crystal clear and well mixed. The whole street shook with the powerful bass.
Many new restaurants joined the Taste this year, including: Naked Tchopstix, LaBamba (Burritos As Big As Your Head), Pizza Express, Dick's Bodacious BBQ, Scholars Inn Bakehouse, and Ripple Bagel Deli.
The Taste occupied more street space this year because the beer garden had been moved further west on Westfield Boulevard. This made room for the new restaurants and some retail booths.
This year's Taste of Broad Ripple was a blast. Another good time should be the Broad Ripple Blues Fest that will be on Saturday, July 31, 2004, in Broad Ripple Park. A future Gazette will have all of the details.

The Second Annual Taste of Broad Ripple filled the streets with people. Music was in the air, as were the aromas of the specialties from more than twenty restaurants.
The music continued through the evening as the crowds grew.
