A Mouse Can't Fly
We enjoy a lovely little gray bird with a top crest, a black patch above the beak, and a light gray stomach called the Tufted Titmouse. This flitting, perky bird gets its name from the Old English words "tit" and "mase," basically meaning "small bird".

When trying to spot this bird, this is a good time to use the app Merlin. Their sound can be confusing. Their call is high, clear and melodic. "Peter, Peter, Peter!" You didn't ask, but if you see more than one of these birds at your feeder, you can say "titmouses" or "titmice". You can attract titmouses to your feeders by offering birdseeds like black oil sunflower, peanut bits and safflower.
