Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #196
posted: Nov. 16, 2023

This historic serial has run on and off in the last 18 years of the Broad Ripple Gazette. The intention is to share the history of Broad Ripple, help people find their ancestors in the text, and to complete the transcriptions of these important early documents.
The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. I will try to include street name changes, such as: Morgan Street is now Guilford, North is now 64th, Hancock is now Westfield. See more of our street name research at BroadRippleHistory.org - Alan
The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Here is the one-hundred ninety-sixth installment
Maintenance Bond for the workers on the street improvement project

MAINTENANCE BOND.

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we, Elam J. Jeffries as principal, and Albert White and Wm R Meniniro of the county of Hancock, and Geo W. Sheets, of the county of Marion and State of Indiana, as sureties, are held and firmly bound to the Town of Broad Ripple in the sum of ten (10) per cent. Of the aggregate cost of the work, for the payment of which we jointly and severally bind ourselves, our executors administrators and assigns firmly by presents.

The conditions of the above obligations are such that if the above named part of the first part shall faithfully comply with that part of the forgoing contract and specification referring to the maintenance and repair of said improvements to the satisfaction of the party of the second part, for a period of five (5) years. After the date of the approval of the final assessment roll therefor, without cost to said town of Broad Ripple, or property holders assessed for the cost of the same, then the obligation to be void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue in law.
WITNESS our hands and seals the day and year last above written.
