Patiently Waiting
I wrote the poem below while watching a program on PBS. The program was fairly unrelated to the poem produced. Whatever the show was, it stimulated a beautiful image for a small story/poem.
The crowd beats upon
the temple walls,
screaming to tear out
the one inside.
A blessed hiding place
for the solitary seeker
with a diamond in
the center of his chest.
So he waits patiently
going further within
until the mob
wears itself thin
with its anger.
When the violence subsides,
he will go out
and speak gently
to those who
are willing
to listen.
