Poetic Thoughts - Finding Poets - by C.W. Pruitt II

Finding Poets
The poets are out there. They have no particular look or smell, but they are out there. Though blending in, I find poets special. So I am often disarmed when I meet a poet.
I barely knew Marx when I found out he was a poet. I saw him doing a variety of tasks at Kroger Glendale over the last three years. We spoke often, but not at length.
Then a storm hit the area and took out the electricity in my neighborhood. On a lark checked to see if Kroger was open. It was closed and employees were telling customers of the closure. I was talking to the ever-engaging Win Asante when the topic of poetry came up. Marx said that he wrote poetry. This brought about considerable dialogue - a real get-to-know-ya. Marx Clark is a 2005 Tech High School graduate. Below is one of his poems:

"It's My Turn"

It's my turn to make a difference
To become someone's friend,
so they won't be friendless
It's my turn to help my brothers
It hurts so bad to see you suffer
Its my turn to become President
so the price of gas will be irrelevant
It's my turn, it's my turn
To make children learn
I'll whisper in your ear, one more time,
It's my turn

Marx A. Clark II June 1, 2008
