The Wine Scene: Wine for All / Social Distance Art Window Walk - by Jill A. Ditmire

Wine for All
People continue to overbuy and hoard food, toilet paper and cleaning supplies but not WINE! Some good values too. ALDI offers it's Flirty Bird series for less than $3. The California wine industry is still in production despite the statewide order for all residents to stay at home. Vineyards are considered agriculture so follow the same guidelines issued to farmers.
In Indiana, many vineyards are pruning vines and need workers. Visit www.indianawines.org for list of wineries then reach out and see how you can help.

Several local wineries are offering "pickup". Easley Winery asks customers to call or email an order, pull up into their free parking lot, show ID thru the window and have sanitized staff load your wine in trunk or back seat at a safe and healthy distance. www.easleywinery.com
The Harrison Center for the Arts is encouraging "5pm Virtual Social Distance Porching". Instead of gathering in groups on your porch to lift a glass and enjoy conversation, take a picture of yourself as you raise a glass and post the photo on the Harrison Center for the Arts Facebook page. www.harrisoncenter.org
The hospitality and arts communities both took a HUGE financial hit when the COVID 19 crisis closed restaurants and cancelled thousands of current and future events, performances, classes and shows.
The BRVA has established a relief fund of sorts to support local businesses stating, "We are committed to supporting our Broad Ripple community during this difficult time. Broad Ripple wouldn't be what is it without the service industry: the bars, restaurants, and shops where we've worked and played in equal measure have made it our home for many years. While we go remote, we want to pay it forward by doing everything we can to support the people and places that make this community spectacular, so we all have a home to come back to." Indianapolis creatives are doing what they can by offering products, art, and music for purchase on line.
The Arts Council of Indianapolis and a number of community funders have established a rapid relief fund to help those whose incomes and livelihoods have essentially been shut down. The web has details on how to apply for a monthly $500 stipend that could be a life saver for those needing help buying groceries, paying bills and rent. www.IndyKeepsCreating.org
Social Distance Art Window Walk
A number of the studio artists at the Harrison Center are creating a COVID 19 inspired art window walk. You can stay in your car, or keep a 6 foot distance between others as you take in the paintings, collages, and sculptures in the building's lower level windows visible at 16th and Delaware streets.
Johnny McKee curated the Ashland Gallery in Broad Ripple and is now at the Harrison Center. His window adds a 21st century touch to historic outbreaks. He takes a Rembrandt portrait created during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and puts a highly coveted medical mask on the subject. www.harrisoncenter.org
