Poetic Thoughts - The Sadistics of Statistics - by C.W. Pruitt II

The Sadistics of Statistics
There were two reasons I went to Ball State University:

1. David Letterman went there.
2. They accepted me.

This is my Top 2 List.

I have been a fan of Dave's since I was a Kentucky schoolboy. Back then, watching the Monkey Cam was my raison d'être. If Ball State was good enough for the comedy genius, it was good enough for me.
Plus, Ball State took me. Indiana and Purdue rejected me because I completed only three semesters of math in high school. (And I passed those semesters by the skin of my rather bulbous nose.)
At Ball State I applied myself diligently to my studies. But my over-arching fear was Statistics. My Psychology degree required two Statistics classes. I studied 10 to 15 hours per week for those Stat classes. I got a 'B' in both classes. Bill Cosby would call them 'Hard B's.'
I tried everything I could think of to ace those Stat tests. One time I studied all night at Hardee's, drinking free refills of coffee in preparation for a 9:30 A.M. test. My brain froze when the test was administered. With most of the test time expired, it all came back to me! I didn't study at Hardee's again.
Two girl/friends of mine aced Statistics easily. I was jealous of their intellectual hardware. It took me so much more effort to accomplish less than they could accomplish effortlessly.
I guess there is some redemption in a 'Hard B.' I think Dave would be proud. Then again, David was a 'C' student. I think he would be damned impressed.
