Poetic Thoughts - Visiting St. Francis - by C.W. Pruitt II
posted: Jan. 19, 2018
Below is a poem about St. Francis of Assisi. His love of humans and animals is legendary and his commitment to voluntary poverty makes him a saint amongst saints.
Visiting St. Francis
When I want
to commune
with nature
I like to
visit Francesco.
I strip naked
and put on
my coarse hemp robe.
My bare feet
belie the very purity
which exudes
from his presence.
I often find him
leaning under a tree
and petting a squirrel
(as if it were
a cat or a small dog.)
He speaks softly and gently
words of Loving kindness
from the most high God.
My tears drip to my feet.
