Random Rippling - Glendale penguins, Wynkin, Blynkin and Nod Indianapolis Zoo
posted: Aug. 18, 2017
The old Glendale penguins, Wynkin, Blynkin and Nod, are currently greeting visitors at the entrance of the Oceans building at the Indianapolis Zoo. The Kite family has loaned them to the Zoo for a 10-year period.
The Arthur Kraft sculptures were originally installed in the new Glendale open-air shopping mall at 62nd and Keystone in 1960 (as a child, your editor played on them many times). In the 1970s Glendale was enclosed. In 2007 the enclosed mall was razed. The penguins were relocated to the ground floor of the old Block's department store which became Staples and the library.
