Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #139
posted: Apr. 18, 2014

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Here is the one-hundred thirty-ninth installment:
Continuation of list of names of voters of the town of Broad Ripple demanding a referendum of an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance granting to Indianapolis Northern traction Company, its successors and assigns, authority to construct, maintain and operate an interurban street railroad over, along and upon certain streets in the town of Broad Ripple, in the County of Marion and State of Indiana."

State of Indiana, Marion County, SS:
Henry M. Hessong
Elijah Foley
Lewis Day
George W. Sheets
J.W. Bates
James A Huffman
R.C. Light
William Pickens
J.O. Brenneman
O.B. Campbell
George Carter and
Philip H. Schneider and
John Schneider

Being duly sworn upon their oath say that they and each of them are duly qualified voters of the incorporated town of Broad Ripple, Indiana and that they know and believe that all the other persons who signed the foregoing petition for a referendum of the matter of granting the franchise to the Indianapolis Northern Traction Company are duly qualified voters of the said town, and they believe that the signatures thereto attached are genuine and that the reasons assigned for the said request are good and sufficient reasons and that such matter should be referred to the voters of the town of Broad Ripple for decision at the coming town election
