The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.
Here is the seventy-seventh installment:
Broad Ripple
17th April 1899
The certificate of the nomination of the Independent party was filed 11th April 1899. The following were the nominees to be voted for at the May election 1899
C.W. Heady Trustee 1st ward
J.H. Campbell Town Treasurer
Jos. H. Brady Town Clerk
L.F. Pierce Town Marshal
The certificate of the nomination Citizens party was filed 11th April 1899 and on account of not being properly signed by the officiating officers, the Board decided the names of the nominees could not be placed on the ballots for the May 1899 election and the clerk instructed to notify the chairman of the Citizens party accordingly.
The certificate of the nomination of the citizens party was reconcidered & the Candidates names were allowed to be placed in the ballot.
The minutes were approved as read.
