Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #74

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Here is the seventy-fourth installment:

Broad Ripple
7th Feby 1899

Ordinance No. 11
An Ordinance granting the new Telephone Co. of Indianapolis State of Indiana, the right to Erect and maintain its poles and lines in the Town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, State of Indiana on Conditions Therein Provided.
Sec. 6 All work to be done in the installation of the plant in Said Town of Broad Ripple shall be Completed by the 1st Day of July, 1899.
Sec. 7 That in case the said Company fails to complete all work to be done in the installation of the plant in the Town of Broad Ripple, within the time specified in this ordinance or fails to locate the poles, at the places designated by the said Board of Trustees as herein provided, then said failure shall work a forfeiture of all rights granted herein.
Sec. 8 The Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and from ten Days after the fileing of an unconditional acceptance thereof by Said Company in the office of the Town Clerk. This Franchise was accepted the 15th Feby., 1899 by the New Telephone Co.

Broad Ripple
28th Feby 1899

The Board met in special session to act on New Telephone Franchise bill all members present
The New Telephone Co ___ allowed the privilage of using the following streets for their poles Morgan - Jefferson Hancock & Shelby Sts [currently Morgan is Guilford, Jefferson is Westfield north of the canal, Hancock is Westfield south of the canal, & Shelby is Broad Ripple Avenue -Alan]
