Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #71

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.
Here is the seventy-first installment:
Broad Ripple
7th Feby 1899
The Board met in regular session all present
A Bill Granting Franchise to the New Telephone Company of Indianapolis to construct and maintain & Operate their Business for 25 Years was passed. The note against the Town held by the Indpls. and Broad Ripple Rapid Transit Co. has been Paid and taken up.
A bill of 75¢ was allowed P.F. Pierce for repairing bridge.
A Bill of 21.00 was allowed L.F. Pierce for Services as Town Marshal from Jany 10th to Feby 10th 1899.
Ordinance No. 10 Regarding Street Peddling Was passed.
Ordinance No. 10
Sec. 1 Be it ordained by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple Marion Co., Ind. That it Shall be unlawful for any Person or Persons not a Resident of Broad Ripple Ind. (whole saling excepted) to sell or offer to Sell any article of Merchandise not of his His or Her own Production without first Securing a Permit or License from Town Marshal for Such Privelidge.
Sec. 2 The Fee for Said Permit or License Shall be as follows, To Wit: The Fee for a Dailey permit Shall be 50¢ Per Day and the Fee for Yearly License Shall be $16.00 Per Year Or $9.00 per Half Year.
The Said Fees are payable to the Town Marshal The Marshal Shall retain 50 Percent of all money Collected for Daily permits and $1.00 for Each Yearly License issued and 75¢ For each half Yearly License Issued.
Sec. 3 Any Persons Violating any of the Provisions of this Ordinance Shall upon Conviction thereof be Fined in any Sum not exceeding $10.00
Sec. 4 Whereas an emergency Exists for the immediate taking effect of this Ordinance. Therefore the Same shall be in full force and Effect from and after its Passage.
