Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #64

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Broad Ripple
5th July 1898
The Board met in regular session all present
A bill for 64 loads of gravil amount $6.40 was allowed Thos. Ferguson, Sr.
A bill for $5.00 for four days work as deputy Marshal was allowed Thos. Jones a bill for 73¢ was allowed L.F. Pierce for ______g dog receipt book & nails.
The Marshal L.F. Pierce's salary $25.00 for work ending 10th July 1898 was allowed
The Marshal was instructed by the Town Board to see that all weeds & high grass be cut down during the month of July 1898
On motion of H.C. Gresh the Treasurer of Marion County Indiana was instructed to collect the taxes of the Town of Broad Ripple Indiana and that the tax duplicate of the town be delivered to the Auditor of said County on or before the 1st day of August 1898
On motion of H.C. Gresh a list of the delinquent tax payers of the Town of Broad Ripple be given to the Town Marshal and he to make a diligent effort to collect the same.
On motion of H.C. Gresh the tax levy for 1898 for town of Broad Ripple was placed at 15¢ on $100.00 general tax. 10¢ on $100.00 Road tax. And a levy of 25¢ as poll tax. Dog tax 25¢ for each male dog and 50¢ for each female dog.
On motion of H.C. Gresh the Board adjourned.
