Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #27

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Broad Ripple 29th April 1895
The Board met in special session all present
On motion of JW Bates a bill of $3.00 was alowed Geo Dougan for hawling gravil for new Jail in favor of E.H. Pursell.
On motion of CL Kirk an order for $10.00 was alowed J.E. Mitchell for work done on jail in favor of JW Bates and an order drawen on the Treasury for same
On motion of CL Kirk The salaries of the Trustees, Treasurer + Clerk of $4.50 each was alowed from 1st July 1895 to balance of term and an order drawen on the Treasury for same.
On motion of JW Bates an order for $1.00 for collecting taxes was allowed Jacob Darling and an order drawen on the Treasury for same. [and] the Marshal was instructed to collect all delinquent taxes.
The Board having this day examined the books accounts and vouchers of the town Treasurer and the report of his receipts and expenditures for the year ending April 1st of the present year which report was filed with the clerk of this town on the 29th day of April 1895, and having found them in all respects correct said report is hereby approved and a settlement is hereby made with said Treasurer in accordinance with said report the town clerk is ordered to indorse upon said report the approval of this board as well as upon the duplicate copy retained by him, and to be caused to be published by these written notices and exhibit of such receipts and expenditures.

Broad Ripple 4th May 1895
The Board met in special session all present
On motion of CL Kirk. JE Mitchell was allowed $25.00 for work done on jail + an order drawen on the Treasury for same
On motion of CL Kirk. C Wright was allowed $10.00 for work done on jail + an order drawen on the Treasury for same
On motion of CL Kirk. Wright + Mitchell was allowed $13.20 in favor of N.B.S. Florander for work and material done on jail.
On motion of CL Kirk. Joseph Robrts (Roberts?) was alowed $1.50 for service as deputy Marshal april 14th 1895 and an order drawen for the same in favour of LF Pierce
On motion of CL Kirk Wm Morris was alowed 50 cents for deputy Marshal badge + an order drawen on the Treasury for same also $1.00 for services as deputy Marshall 28th April 1895
On motion of N B S Florander, Joseph Campbell was appointed Judge of election held 6th May 1895 in place of Jacob Wright he not being eligable.
By a resolution of the Board the Marshal was instructed to notify Wm Meek immediately of the dangerous condition of his building in this town and in the mean time use all proper precautionary measures to keep people from trespassing there on by putting up a guard along the front of said building.
