Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #14

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.
In the last installment: Jacob Darling is appointed Town Marshal.
Here is the fourteenth installment:

Broad Ripple
5th March 1895

The Board met in Regular session all present.
On motion of CL Kirk a bill for $6.85 was alowed JW Bates for General Record book one Tax receipt book and Official Bonds + an order drawen on the Treasury for same.
On motion of CL Kirk the Bond of Jacob Darling as Town Marshall for $500.00 with Chas H Silvey Jn O Brennerman and Joseph Ferguson was accepted for the unexpired term of 1895.
On motion of CL Kirk a special meeting for Thursday night 7th March 1895 was ordered and the Marshal instructed to see HM Hessong and have him present.

7th March 1895

The Board met in special session all present
Owing to the failure of Jacob Darling filling his bond in the proper time (10 days) as required by law IM Bates moves the appointment of Jacob Darling as Marshal for the unexpired term of 1895
On motion of CL Kirk the bond of Jacob Darling for $500.00 with C Silvey.
Jn O Brenneman + Joseph Ferguson as suritees was accepted
The Warrent authorising the Marshal to collect tax was given to him and our regular Tax Duplicate book + tax receipt book were given to him.

Broad Ripple
19th March 1895

The Board met in regular session all present
Chas Florander reported that he had seen the Water Works Co and reported could not get permission to put jail on their ground.
On motion of CL Kirk Dr Bates was appointed a committee on one to consult JS Mustard in regards to obtaining permission to locate jail on his land
On motion of JW Bates Chas Florander was appointed a committee of one to see about buying an iron cage, as to cost etc.
On motion of CL Kirk the clerk was requested to post 4 notices to call a convention of the qualified voters of the town to nominate a citizens ticket for the town officers to be voted for at the May Election.
